Houghton Lodge is one of my favourite venues to photograph a wedding, it’s a wonderful quintessentially English lodge that has elegant interiors and lovely lush grounds which make a fabulous backdrop for me to take advantage of!
Jamie & Marie’s style for their wedding at Houghton’s complemented it in every aspect. From Marie’s beautiful gown, to the bridesmaid’s flower wreaths to the table favours – it all harmonised to create a real treat for me to capture and for them to cherish for the rest of their married lives.
As a couple’s special day is a full on day, I always like to be around from the very beginning so they have the chance to remember it in all its glory. From the flutter of excitement and nerves as they arrive at the venue, to the bridesmaids taking control to make sure the bride has everything she needs as they begin to get ready. The bride being carefully buttoned in to her once in a lifetime dress, to the groomsmen attempting to attach boutonnieres to their lapels – they don’t come with instructions unfortunately! All of the ‘behind the scenes’ shots make the finished album once the day is over even more of a treasure – especially for the groom to see what the bride was like getting ready and vice versa!
The ceremony itself was held in the fabulously lit orangery which helped to produce some lovely photographers of the the ‘I dos’ and perfectly captured Jamie’s beam that covered his face as his stunning bride made her way towards him. It’s not only the groom in this moment that’s taken aback when seeing their loved one make their way down the aisle, all family and friends turn to look at her as she arrives, you can feel the warmth and love people show when you get to photograph that moment – it’s pretty special!
Then comes the after ceremony shoot where you can’t help but see the nerves have disappeared and have been replaced by sheer wedded bliss! We were very lucky to have lots of the garden in full bloom so Jamie and Marie where surrounded by wisteria, lavender and purple alliums – fitting exactly with their colour scheme.
There were lots of smiles, laughs and a few happy tears over the speeches followed by a first dance and then a whole lot of partying! It was a real pleasure to be a part of Jamie & Marie’s wedding day and I wish them all the happiness in the world and hope they love the photos we got of the day even more than I do.
