Have to admit, when I’m called up to photograph a wedding on one of my favourite Mediterranean islands I have to pinch myself a little… whilst I pack my bags to head to Ibiza!
Richard and Sophie’s wedding was held at La Escollera in Playa Es Cavallet. It’s a stunning family run restaurant that’s been in the same hands for over 20 years so they most definitely know how to do things. It’s right on the coast giving it the most jaw-dropping setting so when I found out where we were heading for the day I knew we’d get some fantastic shots.
When I arrived Sophie had just started to get ready for the day ahead, hair and make up where underway and her smiling team of bridesmaids took care of everything else that needed to be done – a bridesmaid’s role is key at this time of the wedding day, on hand to calm any nerves, to jump in and save any laddered tight disasters or just to tell a joke to make everyone feel relaxed. It’s a great part to photograph as you can almost see the excitement of this long await day start to bubble over… sometimes literally when champagne corks are popping!
The ceremony was out on a terrace right next to the sea, stuff of dream weddings. As the guests mingled and took their places, the waves lapped against the sea wall as they waited for the bride. Sophie then arrived in a black vintage car, matching perfectly with the bridesmaids dresses and the style of her own gorgeous gown and they made their way down to where her groom was waiting.
I’ve said it a few times on my blog but there is nothing that compares to the groom’s first look at his bride and this one was a corker, Richard couldn’t hide his pride and love as Sophie began her walk towards him. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house, a really special moment that I always feel so honoured to be able to capture.
After the ‘I dos’ we took full advantage of the beauty of Ibiza, including an absolutely stunning sun set image which I think is just screaming to be blown up and hung on a wall 🙂
Afterwards everyone let their hair down, enjoyed some wonderful heartfelt speeches and ended the night as you’d expect an Ibizan wedding to – on the dance floor!
Thanks go to the happy couple for choosing me to photograph their wedding day, it was a delight from start to finish.
Wishing them all the happiness in the world and all the best for the future.
